24-year-old Kriti Kumari was killed in what authorities described as a violent escalation of a personal conflict. The suspect, named Abhishek, was reportedly often embroiled in arguments with his girlfriend about his joblessness, which were known to become heated. These conflicts often drew in Kumari, who police say tried to diffuse the situations, but may have inadvertently exacerbated tensions.
Investigators indicated that the relationship dynamics deteriorated significantly leading up to the murder. Abhishek was reportedly shunned by Kumari and her friends, prompting him to storm the Paying Guest (PG) accommodation previously, causing a commotion. Following that incident, Kumari helped her roommate relocate to another hostel, and both women ceased all communication with Abhishek.
The breakdown in their interactions is believed to have provoked Abhishek, culminating in him fatally attacking Kumari. Details emerged from CCTV footage that caught the horrific attack, which later circulated on social media. The video displayed Abhishek entering the hostel corridor with a plastic bag, heading towards Kumari’s room.
In the chilling footage, Abhishek is seen knocking on the door, entering, and then dragging Kumari out as she struggles against him. Armed with a knife, he first grabs her by the neck, and despite her efforts to defend herself, stabs her repeatedly. Even as she collapses, he continues his assault, striking her multiple times more. Before fleeing the scene, Abhishek is captured making a final, brutal attempt to slit her throat as she lies bleeding.
The incident left the hostel residents in shock, with one of the women seen urgently calling the police as Kumari lay grievously wounded.
