Loganlea, Australia — A neighborhood dispute escalated into a violent confrontation when a man allegedly attacked two residents with a tomahawk, resulting in serious injuries for both victims and the assailant. Emergency services were dispatched to a residence on Haig Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday following reports of a disturbance involving a weapon.
Authorities claim that 57-year-old Craig Rackley confronted Tammie Rolfe, 52, and her partner, Shaun Williams, 40, after reportedly following a pizza delivery driver into their home. It is alleged that Rackley threatened the couple with the weapon before launching an attack. Tammie’s mother, Sharon Rolfe, captured the chaotic scene on her phone, recording the urgent screams for help echoing from the home.
According to Sharon, the confrontation stemmed from a long-standing feud between the two families. “This has been building for years,” she said. “It started with disputes over trees and escalated from there. We tried to keep the peace.” Her attempts to defuse tensions included removing trees and adjusting the positioning of a spotlight at Rackley’s request.
When Sharon rushed outside after hearing the screams, she found Shaun bleeding, while Tammie screamed in pain, having sustained a broken arm. Paramedics treated the couple at the scene before they were transported to a local hospital. Tammie remains hospitalized due to her injuries, while Shaun has since been discharged after receiving treatment for wounds to his head and arm.
Witnesses reported that neighbors attempted to detain Rackley until police arrived, but he managed to evade capture briefly. Officers later located him hiding nearby and swiftly made the arrest. Rackley is now facing two counts of grievous bodily harm, with police indicating he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
The case was presented in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday, though Rackley did not appear in person. He remains under police guard in the hospital and is scheduled to return to court on Monday. This incident underscores the potential dangers that can arise from long-term disputes between neighbors, raising questions about community safety and conflict resolution.
