STERLING, Va. – A tragic house explosion late Friday night in Sterling, Virginia has left one volunteer firefighter dead and three others still hospitalized. The explosion occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, prompting multiple fire crews to respond to reports of a gas odor at a home on Silver Ridge Drive. Firefighters found an underground 500-gallon propane tank leaking into another house on the same street. The explosion, which occurred at 8:25 p.m., had a substantial impact, with residents in the neighborhood describing it as feeling like the whole house was shaking and sounding like a big boom.
While the two people and pets inside the home were evacuated before the explosion, Brown tragically lost his life at the scene. Ten other firefighters were taken to local hospitals for treatment, and a woman inside the home sustained minor injuries. Despite the tragic outcome, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Johnson praised the efforts of the firefighters, emphasizing that they “did their job” by saving the woman inside the home.
