Hyderabad, Telangana – In the aftermath of an attack by Hindutva extremists on Muslims in Medak, Telangana, tension lingers in the town as heavy police presence and restrictions are enforced.
Reports from Kashmir Media Service indicate that the incident unfolded when a group of Hindutva activists assaulted Muslim residents in Medak who had brought cattle for sacrifice during Eid-Al-Adha. The town faced clashes, vandalism at hospitals, and shutdowns of shops, with the Hindutva group specifically targeting Muslims and their properties. The increased security measures and imposition of Section 144 in the area were put in place to prevent further escalations.
Residents of Medak disclosed that the disturbance began when a mob of Sangh Parivar workers arrived at an open field in front of Minhaj-ul-Uloom Madarsa, where the cattle for Eid-Al-Adha sacrifice were kept. The situation turned violent as the mob protested against the slaughtering of the cattle and physically assaulted Muslim representatives, including members of the Madrasa management.
Furthermore, the Hindu mob attacked Madrasa committee members at the police station where they were filing a complaint against their assailants. The perpetrators even pursued them to a hospital in the town, where they continued to inflict harm on the victims seeking medical attention. In addition to these assaults, the Hindutva extremists forcibly shut down shops and caused damage to properties owned by Muslims, with several Muslim-owned enterprises being targeted.
Many Medak locals, speaking on condition of anonymity, voiced concerns about the seemingly passive response of the police during the attacks and the destruction of Muslim-owned properties. The climate in the town remains fraught with tension and fear, as residents grapple with the aftermath of the targeted violence. Efforts are underway to restore peace and security in Medak as the community works to heal and rebuild in the wake of this traumatic event.
