Teenager Killed in Cicero Shootout During Social Media Sale Gone Wrong

CICERO, Ill. — A teenager was fatally shot and another person injured during a violent encounter linked to a robbery attempt on Wednesday afternoon, according to local law enforcement. The incident unfolded around 3:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of South 58th Avenue.

Police reported that two teenagers had arranged to meet for a transaction through a social media marketplace. As the seller was leaving, the buyer attempted to forcibly take the item, leading to a struggle between the two. A family member who had accompanied the seller witnessed the altercation and exited their vehicle to intervene.

During the confrontation, the family member was shot twice by the assailant. In response, they drew their own firearm and returned fire, striking the attempted robber. Law enforcement officials stated that the injured relative was transported to Loyola University Medical Center, where they were reported to be in stable condition following treatment.

The suspected robber later arrived at Rush Oak Park Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after. Police indicated that the investigation was ongoing as of Wednesday evening, as they gathered more details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
