BATON ROUGE, LA – The Baton Rouge community is in mourning after the tragic death of 17-year-old Anthony Robinson, a promising Scotlandville High School student, who was shot in broad daylight on his way home from school. Authorities have taken a 16-year-old suspect into custody in connection with the shooting.
Robinson, described by his family as a bright and ambitious young man with dreams of entrepreneurship and engineering, was returning home when the incident occurred. He was known for his creativity and was deeply involved in various design projects.
The suspect, who was apprehended near his home in Baker, now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of a weapon. Police investigations revealed that the suspect and Robinson had previous altercations, which may have escalated into this fatal encounter.
Robinson’s grandfather, Ted Field, shared fond memories of working alongside his grandson on landscaping projects since Robinson was 12. He recounted a prior conflict between Robinson and the suspect during a basketball game, which reportedly involved a physical altercation.
According to family accounts, the same suspect had previously chased Robinson with a knife, leading to a police report being filed earlier that day. The school system has issued a statement, assuring the community that police are actively investigating the case and expressing condolences to the Robinson family.
Field expressed his heartbreak over the loss of his grandson, who was eagerly anticipating prom and other milestones. He emphasized the cherished memories he holds, despite the shattered dreams.
As the community grapples with this tragedy, the alleged shooter remains in the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center, charged as a juvenile. The investigation continues as authorities seek to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
