Two individuals have been convicted and sentenced for a brutal stabbing that resulted in the death of Farhad Khalili in Kingston, London. The attack took place on December 15, 2021, when Khalili was ambushed and stabbed by Sean Deery and Sebastian Niven on Surbiton Crescent. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Khalili tragically died at the scene after being stabbed multiple times and collapsing on Surbiton Road.
CCTV footage identified the assailants, leading to the arrest of both Deery and 15-year-old Niven, who subsequently fled on foot but was apprehended the following day. The discovery of blood-stained clothing linked Niven to the violent attack.
During their police interviews, both Deery and Niven refused to answer questions, but the evidence against them was substantial enough for them to be charged with murder. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as it was never established why Deery and Niven targeted Khalili in such a violent manner.
Following their convictions at the Old Bailey in December, both Deery and Niven were sentenced at the same court. Deery, 28, was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years, while Niven, now 18, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 14 years imprisonment.
The mother of the victim, having received a call from her son’s phone, was informed by the police of Khalili’s tragic death. She left her house and walked towards the crime scene to confront the harsh reality of the situation, expressing her devastation at the loss of her son.
The officers who responded to the incident were commended for their swift actions, ultimately leading to the identification and apprehension of the suspects. The support and cooperation of the local community were also acknowledged as vital in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
