Kisii, Kenya – The suspect allegedly involved in a violent assault against the family of Evelyne Kwamboka, an editor at Standard Group, has been placed in custody at Kisii Remand Prison. Job Morara faced remand after failing to attend a court hearing, leading Senior Resident Magistrate Christabel Agutu to deem him a flight risk.
Morara, apprehended at his residence, provided no compelling explanation for missing the previous court appearance. Despite claiming to have been unwell, he lacked medical documentation to support his assertion. In response, the magistrate instructed the authorities to transport Morara for a medical evaluation at Nyamira Referral Hospital before transferring him to Kisii Remand Prison.
The incident in question involved Morara, along with two other suspects, allegedly assaulting Kwamboka’s mother, Faustine Moraa Kiage, at her establishment in Nyamaiya town on November 30, 2023. The trio, including Francis Ouru Oruko and Kevin Mogy Thomas, stand accused of forcefully taking Sh22,000 from Moraa, although they have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On April 9, the suspects are scheduled to appear in court for a hearing concerning a petition disputing a prebail report. Aggrieved by the actions against their family member, Kwamboka and her associates await justice as the legal proceedings unfold. The case has stirred conversations around safety and the protection of journalists and their loved ones in the region.
