Suspect Arrested in Tragic Double Homicide of Rising Rapper and Young Man in Birmingham

Birmingham, AL — A 23-year-old man faces capital murder charges following the grim double homicide of a local rapper and a young man in a southwest Birmingham house last year. Authorities confirmed that Jamil Carillo-Jemison was detained and booked into the Jefferson County Jail without bond this Saturday, as allegations deepen over his involvement in the 2024 shooting deaths of Kayla Warren, 28, and Na’ Bryan Adams, 20.

The incident, which unfolded amidst a quiet evening just after 8 p.m. on August 21, 2024, erupted into violence in the 700 block of 30th Street S.W. Responding to the sound of multiple gunshots, West Precinct officers located Warren, tragically shot on a friend’s front porch. Known professionally as 205KayWay, Warren was swiftly transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, where she was later pronounced dead.

In a related action, Adams was independently rushed to Princeton Baptist Medical Center by acquaintances. Given the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds the following day.

On the night of the attack, several individuals were reportedly gathered at the home, which became the sudden target of gunfire. The violent spree also caused damage to an adjacent residence, where a 66-year-old resident narrowly avoided injury.

Carillo-Jemison’s capture marked a significant moment for local law enforcement. Members of Birmingham’s Crime Reduction Team apprehended him on April 10, in the 1900 block of Princeton Court. Held initially at the Birmingham City Jail, he was transferred following the issuance of capital murder charges.

While the police have not yet released a motive for the killings, the community remains shaken by the event. The incident is not isolated in Birmingham’s struggle against violent crime. In response, the Birmingham Police Department has ramped up its efforts, successfully closing 13 unsolved homicide cases from the previous year. Since the start of 2025 alone, a total of 24 individuals have faced charges related to homicide, underscoring the ongoing challenge and commitment to law enforcement in the area.

As the community seeks solace and answers, the memories of those lost linger, particularly for Warren, whose budding music career was brutally cut short. Her family and friends continue their plea for justice and effective action to combat the surge in local violence.

Warren’s untimely death not only robbed the community of a vibrant young artist but also ignited a renewed outcry over the persistence of gun violence and its devastating impact on communities. As the case against Carillo-Jemison progresses, residents and authorities alike are hopeful for a resolution that brings peace to the afflicted families and deters future acts of violence.
