Sun City Man Charged with Murder in Wife’s Death in Hilton Head Incident

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In a tragic turn of events, a 77-year-old man from Sun City has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, who was also 77 years old. The name of the deceased woman has not been released by deputies.

According to authorities in Beaufort County, deputies responded to a distressing 911 call on Saturday from a home on Penny Creek Drive. The caller, later identified as John K. Rounds, reported a disturbing incident where he and his wife had allegedly taken their own lives. However, upon arrival at the scene, deputies found Rounds’ wife deceased and Rounds himself with minor lacerations.

Investigators believe that Rounds suffocated his wife before attempting suicide, which was fortunately unsuccessful. Beaufort County EMS provided medical treatment to Rounds before he was transported to a local hospital. Once released from medical care, deputies took him into custody and he is currently being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
