ORMOND BEACH, FL – A quiet afternoon nap turned into a chaotic scene for Paul Holub when lightning unexpectedly struck his home, sending debris crashing down from above. Holub awoke in a panic, surrounded by pieces of his ceiling and roof.
The incident happened at 4 p.m. on a clear Monday afternoon. Despite the sunny weather, the lightning bolt created a large opening in Holub’s roof, leaving him bewildered. “I just woke up with everything landing on me,” he said.
Holub, who was resting due to food poisoning, was lucky that the sheetrock absorbed much of the impact from the falling roof tiles. “Those tiles are heavy, and it could have been much worse,” he noted.
Family members quickly came to Holub’s aid, helping him out of the rubble and surveying the extensive damage. Electronics were destroyed, and debris was scattered across the property.
Feeling fortunate to have escaped serious injury, Holub is now focused on repairing his home. “I’m grateful to be alive,” he remarked, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the event.
