PATTAYA, Thailand – A minor traffic incident turned violent in Pattaya when a dispute between motorcycle taxi drivers escalated into a stabbing, leaving one severely injured, according to local police reports. The event, captured by CCTV cameras in the Soi Diana area of Central Pattaya, unfolded when one driver allegedly fled after colliding with another vehicle.
The collision sparked an initial verbal altercation involving a young motorcycle taxi driver, who confronted the other party involved in the accident. Despite attempts to deescalate the situation, the victim, identified as 37-year-old Rewat Saechua, found himself pursued by two assailants, also motorcycle taxi drivers.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the argument intensified as Saechua and a friend tried to navigate through Soi Buakhao 15. It was there that the two aggressors intercepted and confronted them, further escalating the tension into physical violence. During the confrontation, one of the attackers, known only as “Naw”, a 17-year-old involved, resorted to using a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds on Saechua, including significant injuries to his arm and cheek.
Saechua was swiftly attended to at Pattaya City Hospital, where he received multiple stitches for wounds on his left arm and cheek. The gruesome ordeal drew immediate attention from local law enforcement.
Pattaya police acted quickly, identifying and apprehending the two suspects involved in the attack, Naw and 20-year-old Supachok. Upon detention, Naw confessed to the stabbing, explaining that the violent outburst stemmed from what they believed was a deliberate ‘hit and run’ incident.
Authorities have since charged Naw and Supachok with severe assault, inflicting serious injury, and breaching the Knife Act. The harsh legal consequences they face underscore the gravity of their actions and the legal boundaries they overstepped.
This incident has raised concerns in the local community about road safety and the aggression often associated with minor traffic disputes. Local police are taking measures to increase surveillance and enforce stricter compliance with traffic regulations to prevent future occurrences.
Legal experts comment on the broader implications of such violent acts over seemingly minor disputes. “Incidents like these highlight the urgent need for more comprehensive conflict resolution training and stricter control over weapon possession among public service providers,” noted a Pattaya-based legal analyst.
The case continues to develop as Pattaya police delve deeper into the motives behind the attack and assess the security footage to establish the full sequence of events. Meanwhile, the community reflects on the consequences of unchecked aggression and the importance of maintaining calm in conflict-laden situations. Such incidents, while rare, spotlight the potential dangers lurking in everyday interactions when tempers flare unchecked.
