ARLINGTON, TX – An overnight shootout at an Arlington apartment complex has left a 13-year-old girl wounded, underscoring the dangers of gun violence in residential areas. The incident unfolded when a stray bullet penetrated the girl’s window, hitting her as she slept.
Residents at Brooke Park Apartments, near major thoroughfares Interstate 20 and South Collins Street, were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire and cries for help. The early Monday morning shootout involved two groups firing at each other in the parking lot, according to Arlington police.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m., where they found evidence of a violent confrontation. The gunfire had left bullet holes in the apartment buildings and shattered several car windows, turning the complex into a crime scene.
The young victim was immediately taken to the hospital by her family. Thankfully, her injuries were not severe, and she was released after receiving treatment.
John Kelly, a resident whose apartment was nearly hit by bullets, described the aftermath. “It was shocking to see so many evidence markers right outside,” he said, noting the extensive damage and risks posed to the community.
While the police have yet to determine if the incident is linked to gang activity, they are actively pursuing leads. No arrests have been made, and authorities are withholding suspect details for now.
The family of the girl, who declined to appear on camera, expressed their frustration and hope that those responsible will be brought to justice soon.
As the investigation continues, Arlington police are urging anyone with information about the shootout to come forward, as the community seeks answers and safety in the wake of this traumatic event.
