The incident, which took place at a banquet hall, has sent shockwaves through Stockton, prompting calls for action and justice.
Pastor Pam Houston, who was away celebrating her grandmother’s 90th birthday in Texas when she learned of the violence, expressed deep sorrow. “No family should have to face this amount of trauma or loss from such senseless acts,” she lamented. Houston was among approximately 150 individuals who gathered Sunday afternoon to offer support and prayers for the victims’ families.
San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow condemned the shooting, emphasizing the need for community cooperation in apprehending those responsible. “These individuals walked into a birthday party and inflicted harm on innocent children. We must all take a stand against such violence,” he urged, calling on anyone with information to come forward.
Among the injured, one person remains in critical condition, while others have been stabilized. Pastor Trena Turner of Victory in Praise Church underscored the emotional toll the incident has taken on families and the community. “I spent hours at the hospital praying with loved ones,” she shared.
Former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, now serving as a special advisor for economic opportunities, revealed that he knew one of the victims—someone entrenched in community service rather than violence. “This person wasn’t even affiliated with gangs. They were simply celebrating a child’s milestone,” Tubbs explained. He noted the indelible trauma that survivors will carry after witnessing such horror.
