Police say the suspect’s mother died and his father survived after officers responded to a Deer Ridge Drive residence Friday evening.
LEAGUE CITY, Texas — A League City man has been charged with murder and aggravated assault after police said his parents were stabbed inside their home Friday evening, leaving his mother dead and his father injured.
Juan Jose Uribe Pelaez was taken into custody after officers entered the Deer Ridge Drive home and used a drone to help determine where he was inside, according to League City police. Authorities said officers eventually used a Taser while taking him into custody. He remained jailed on bonds totaling $500,000 as investigators continued working to determine what led to the attack.
Police were sent to the home shortly after 7 p.m. Friday after the father called 911 and reported that he and his wife had been attacked. Responding officers found him outside the residence with multiple injuries. He told officers that his wife remained inside the house with the suspect, police said.
Officers forced their way into the home and removed the woman so emergency crews could treat her, according to police accounts. Both victims were taken to a hospital. The woman later died from her injuries. The husband survived and was reported in stable condition after initially suffering serious injuries.
Authorities identified the woman as the suspect’s mother and the injured man as his father. Loved ones later publicly identified them as Luz Mary Pelaez and Raul Uribe. Police have accused their adult son, Uribe Pelaez, of carrying out both attacks, but the charges remain allegations and the case has not been adjudicated.
Police said Uribe Pelaez did not comply when officers called for him to leave the residence. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office assisted League City officers with a drone, which authorities used to locate the suspect inside a bedroom. Officers then moved in and took him into custody.
Uribe Pelaez was charged with murder in connection with his mother’s death and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with his father’s injuries. Police said bond was set at $250,000 on each charge, for a combined total of $500,000.
The circumstances that preceded the violence have not been publicly established. Police have not announced a suspected motive or described what investigators believe happened immediately before the stabbings. Authorities have said the investigation remains active.
The case unfolded in the Oaks of Clear Creek area near Highway 3 and Washington Street. In the days after the attack, friends, relatives and neighbors gathered to remember Luz Mary Pelaez and support her husband as he recovered.
League City police have not announced any additional charges or released a final account of what led to the attack. Uribe Pelaez remained accused of murder and aggravated assault as the investigation continued.
