LAGOS, NIGERIA – A series of tragic accidents have left six passengers dead in separate road crashes along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway and Sagamu/Benin/Ore Expressway. The Ogun sector of the Federal Roads Safety Corps confirmed the fatalities in a statement released on Monday.
The first crash occurred in the early hours of Monday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near FIDIWO. According to Florence Okpe, the Chief Route commander and Education Officer of the Ogun sector, four male adults were involved in the crash, resulting in two deaths and two injuries. The suspected causes were attributed to wrongful overtaking and speeding, leading to loss of control and the subsequent crash.
In another unfortunate incident at the Ore-Ijebu-Ode section of the expressway, a Toyota Hiace bus was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of three individuals. Speed and fatigue were identified as the primary factors contributing to the crash. The injured victims were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the deceased were transported to the hospital’s morgue.
A third crash occurred on the same expressway after the Ajebamidele Bridge, involving a total of twenty-nine individuals. Tragically, one male adult lost his life in this incident, with two others sustaining injuries. The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ogun Sector Command Anthony Uga, urged motorists to exercise caution and ensure they are well-rested to prevent accidents caused by fatigue.
