ORLANDO, FL – A school bus carrying 30 students found itself at the center of a chaotic shootout, turning a mundane morning into a scene of danger and fear. The incident occurred at 6 a.m. in the Carver Shores neighborhood, where gunfire erupted between two vehicles, sending 27 rounds into the air. Thankfully, despite one bullet striking the bus, all students emerged unharmed.
Residents were startled from their slumber by the gunfire, and arriving officers found the bus stop had become a crime scene. Evidence collection was underway as the community grappled with the unsettling events that unfolded in their midst.
The bus driver acted decisively, swiftly fleeing the scene to ensure the students’ safety and reporting the incident upon reaching Doctor Phillips High School. “It’s terrifying to think your child might not return home the way they left,” shared Marisol Cruz, who transports her grandkids to school every day.
A man injured during the shootout was treated and released from the hospital the same day. Police are leaning on surveillance footage from the bus, which recorded much of the altercation, and the driver’s ability to identify one of the culprits. A juvenile suspect has been apprehended, though their identity is protected.
The investigation has also led to the second arrest of Willie Howard, who previously faced charges of tampering with evidence for allegedly concealing the gun used in the shootout. He now faces more serious charges, including attempted murder, and remains in jail without bail.
The community is left to ponder the implications of such violence so close to home and school. Howard’s court appearance is scheduled for next week, as police continue to seek information from the man injured, who has been uncooperative.
As the investigation progresses, the community remains vigilant, aware of the unpredictable threat of violence that can strike at any moment, impacting even the most innocent.
