Jamshedpur, India — In a decisive move against the remnants of Mukhtar Ansari’s underworld operations, an operation conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) and Jharkhand Police resulted in the death of notorious sharpshooter Anuj Kanojia. The operation took place in Jamshedpur, where Kanojia, accused in multiple criminal cases, was killed during a gunfight that witnessed close to 20 rounds exchanged.
The event occurred on the death anniversary of Mukhtar Ansari, symbolic in its timing and serving as a marked moment of progress for regional law enforcement in their ongoing battle against organized crime. Kanojia, who carried a bounty of Rs 2.5 lakh on his head, had been eluding capture for five years prior to the encounter.
Anuj Kanojia was recognized as one of Ansari’s most reliable hitmen and was implicated in over two dozen criminal charges spanning murder to extortion, particularly prevalent in Mau and Ghazipur districts. Notably, his bounty had increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh as he continued to evade law enforcement efforts.
In an assertive action prelude to the encounter, authorities had demolished Kanojia’s residence in Azamgarh using heavy machinery under the supervision of the police.
