Miami-Dade, FL – Police in Miami-Dade, Florida, have identified the suspect responsible for the tragic incident at Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral. The suspect, 37-year-old Jamal Wayne Wood, fatally shot 23-year-old security guard George Alejandro Castellanos before being confronted by officers and subsequently killed in a shootout.
The altercation began inside the bar, where Castellanos bravely intervened as a security guard. Responding to the scene were two Doral Police officers who engaged Wood in gunfire. As a result, one officer sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremity and was hospitalized but in stable condition.
Amidst the chaos, five bystanders suffered injuries during the shooting: Lester Williams Gonzalez, Frank Miguel Jerez, Yaniris Jerez, Sonia Munoz Torres, and Gerard Patrick Delaney. One victim was in critical condition, while the others were listed as being stable.
Heartbreak enveloped the community, especially for Castellanos’ family, as his mother shared that he was a father to a 2-year-old girl and was on the brink of graduating from Florida International University. “We’re broken right now, totally broken,” expressed Jeanina Castellanos.
City of Doral officials swiftly responded to the tragedy, with Police Chief Edwin Lopez deeming it “an extremely disappointing day.” Mayor Christi Fraga has scheduled a special meeting to address nightclub safety in the city following the incident.
