Seattle, WA – A Seattle woman is facing charges of second-degree murder after allegedly inflicting fatal injuries on her 14-year-old son during an extended assault last month. Denaya Young, 29, was arrested following the incident, which law enforcement officials say stemmed from the teenager’s failure to complete household chores.
The distressing episode, which reportedly lasted over three hours, resulted in the death of Young’s son on January 30 due to multiple blunt-force traumas, according to findings from the King County Medical Examiner. Medical analysis revealed the boy suffered more than 1,000 separate injuries during the assault. His condition led to Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), a critical body reaction where intensive inflammation causes vital blood supply to be redirected in a manner that the heart could no longer support.
During her interrogation, Young admitted to authorities that frustration over her son’s chores escalated to physical violence. She acknowledged using an HDMI cable as a weapon against the teenager, ignoring his pleas for her to stop and dismissing his complaints of dizziness as deceitful.
Alongside the tragic account of the mother’s actions, disclosures about the household environment at the time of the boy’s death emerged. Three younger children and an adult, identified as the victim’s stepfather, were also present. The stepfather admitted to hearing the violence but chose not to intervene, stating fears of becoming a target himself. His reported reticence underscores a chilling disregard for the victim’s welfare, hinting at a broader context of neglect and abuse within the home.
Further examination of Young’s past interactions with her son revealed a troubling history of violence dating back to November of the previous year.
