SARNIA, Ontario — A man has been arrested in connection with a violent assault that took place late last year, according to local authorities. On December 29, 2024, police responded to a call from a business on Christina Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. They arrived to find a 43-year-old man with significant head injuries. The victim was promptly transported to Bluewater Health for medical treatment.
Investigators pieced together the events leading up to the assault, which were captured on surveillance video. Footage shows a group of individuals on bicycles approaching the victim, who was asleep at an outdoor table. One member of the group allegedly stole a red bag belonging to the victim, while another reportedly attacked him with a weapon, striking him multiple times in the head before fleeing the scene.
The investigation extended over six months, during which detectives identified a 42-year-old suspect. Aaron Furstenau, who has no fixed address, is currently in custody on separate charges. Authorities have filed a warrant for him to be summoned to court on the new allegations stemming from the violent incident.
