SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A man from San Diego County faces charges of murder and other offenses after an incident in Corona resulted in his girlfriend being fatally shot. Eric John Nourani, 32, was arrested following the confrontation in the 1000 block of West Sixth Street, near Lincoln Avenue.
Nourani, who has pleaded not guilty, is also charged with attempted murder, mayhem, resisting arrest, and obstructing a law enforcement officer resulting in great bodily injury. The criminal complaint alleges that Nourani was responsible for the death of 30-year-old Jennifer Rose Dobbins of Imperial Beach under California’s felony murder rule.
The altercation began when a sheriff’s deputy spotted multiple individuals and stopped to investigate. Nourani allegedly attacked the deputy, leading to a struggle. Dobbins reportedly joined the scuffle and was fatally shot by the deputy during the incident.
Following the shooting, first responders attempted to save Dobbins, but she succumbed to her injuries at Riverside Community Hospital. The deputy sustained moderate injuries and Nourani was treated for minor injuries before being booked into jail.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident, involving the California Department of Justice and the sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail, in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office. The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Nourani, who has no prior criminal history in Riverside County, will have another hearing on June 25 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. He is currently held in custody on $2 million bail. The incident underscores the dangers law enforcement officers face during routine encounters and the complexities of legal consequences in such situations.
