MOSCOW, RUSSIA – A 37-year-old Russian man has confessed to beheading an escort after he was unable to perform during a drunken binge, leading authorities to suspect that he may be a serial killer targeting prostitutes.
The man, Alexei Varakin, admitted to stabbing 25-year-old Vlada Skitskaya to death in her Moscow high rise residence after he became enraged due to suffering an “intimate problem,” according to Russian news outlet NTV.
Skitskaya, who had moved to Moscow from a smaller city in search of a better life, managed to grab Varakin’s knife and slash him in the face before she was dismembered. Additionally, another victim, 40-year-old Olga Vorobyova, was found beheaded near a Moscow hotel, where she allegedly met Varakin.
During police interrogation, Varakin confessed to the murder of Vorobyova and admitted to living in isolation at a hotel after being released from a mental hospital in 2010 for stabbing two other prostitutes who had caught him stealing from their purses.
Varakin attributed his actions to being under the influence of alcohol during the killings. Authorities are currently conducting forensic examinations to determine if Varakin is responsible for the deaths of other sex workers.
These shocking events shed light on the vulnerability of sex workers and the dangers they face, as well as the importance of addressing mental health and substance abuse issues within society. As the investigation unfolds, authorities continue their efforts to bring justice to the victims and prevent further tragedies in the future.
