Retired Officer Killed by Police Following Knife Threat

BRENTWOOD, NY – A retired New York City correction officer’s confrontation with police ended in tragedy when he was shot and killed outside his Brentwood home. Officers were called to check on 54-year-old Bruce Boyd’s welfare, leading to a fatal encounter.

Upon arrival at Boyd’s Wurz Street residence, officers were met by his wife and discovered Boyd inside, holding a knife and showing signs of self-harm. The officers exited the home, repeatedly instructing Boyd to drop the knife as he pursued them.

Boyd allegedly charged at the officers, resulting in at least one officer opening fire. He was subsequently pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital.
