The suspect’s previous prosecution ended without a conviction after he completed a pretrial intervention program, records cited by police show.
BUNNELL, Fla. — A Palm Coast man accused of pointing a handgun at two motorists on U.S. 1 had recently completed a pretrial program arising from a similar road confrontation reported in 2023, police said.
Joshua Alexander Walker, 33, was arrested following a July 31 encounter in Bunnell and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. The new allegation came about five months after prosecutors ended the earlier case without a conviction following Walker’s completion of pretrial intervention.
The Bunnell Police Department said officers were called at about 7:33 p.m. July 31 to investigate a reckless driver near Education Way and North State Street, which is part of U.S. 1. Two motorists said a white Hyundai Tucson had been swerving between lanes.
The motorists told police they passed the Hyundai near Education Way and saw its driver point a handgun at them. They drove away and contacted authorities from a safe location, police said. No shots or injuries were reported.
Flagler County sheriff’s deputies located the Hyundai traveling south near Old Dixie Highway. Police identified Walker as the driver and said both motorists independently identified him and the vehicle during separate identification procedures.
Deputies saw firearm magazines in plain view inside the Hyundai’s center console, according to police. The vehicle was impounded, and detectives obtained a search warrant Aug. 3. Authorities said the search produced a Taurus 9 mm handgun and three loaded magazines.
During the investigation, police reviewed a separate case from May 2023. In that encounter, two motorists accused Walker of pointing a firearm during a traffic dispute near Palm Coast Parkway and Interstate 95, according to an account of the charging records released by police.
Walker acknowledged displaying a firearm during the earlier incident, and deputies recovered a loaded SCCY 9 mm handgun, according to the records cited by authorities. He entered a no-contest plea to aggravated assault with a firearm on Feb. 27, 2024, as part of a pretrial intervention agreement.
Pretrial intervention can allow a prosecution to end after a participant meets court-approved conditions. Police said Walker completed the program and that the state ended its prosecution Feb. 26, 2026, leaving him without a conviction in that case. Authorities did not release the full terms of the agreement.
The earlier case and its outcome do not establish guilt in the new prosecution. Walker is presumed innocent of the latest charge unless he is found guilty in court. Police did not release information about whether he had entered a plea or retained an attorney in the new case.
Bunnell Police Chief David Brannon said displaying a firearm during a roadway disagreement can rapidly increase the danger to drivers and bystanders. He said his department would not tolerate the use of a weapon to intimidate people on local roads.
Walker was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where his bond was set at $25,000, police said. Further court dates and the status of his detention had not been publicly detailed by the agencies as of Thursday.
