Prince George’s County Man Charged with Murder in Deadly Road Rage Shooting of 20-Year-Old Woman

BALTIMORE — A 28-year-old man from Glenn Dale has been charged with murder following a tragic road-rage shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman last year. Dominec Proctor now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the incident that unfolded on May 3, 2024, on the Capital Beltway.

According to Maryland State Police, the victim, Nyah Hairston, was discovered in her vehicle, which had come to rest in a ditch along the highway after the shooting. Troopers responded to the scene and found Hairston suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators have linked Proctor to the crime after receiving new information that pointed to him as a suspect. As of now, he is being held without bond in Virginia on unrelated charges. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the evidence that led to Proctor’s arrest.

This incident marks the third road-rage homicide under Maryland State Police investigation since 2022, raising concerns about escalating violence on the roads. Police have noted a troubling trend in recent years, with road-rage incidents becoming increasingly deadly.

Community members have expressed shock and sadness over the loss of Hairston, describing her as a vibrant young woman with a bright future. Her death has prompted calls for improved road safety measures and public awareness regarding the dangers of aggressive driving behavior.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues. The case highlights ongoing issues of road rage and its potentially lethal consequences, as law enforcement works to address this troubling phenomenon on local highways.
