GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – A 44-year-old woman from Garden Grove, California, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to charges of driving under the influence and second-degree murder in connection to a fatal car accident in Anaheim. The crash took place on August 11, 2020, when Courtney Fritz Pandolfi, driving under the influence of drugs, struck a 23-year-old pregnant woman, Yesenia Lisette Aguilar, while she was walking on the sidewalk with her husband. Aguilar was 35 weeks pregnant at the time and had to undergo an emergency C-section to deliver her baby after the accident.
Pandolfi also pleaded guilty to charges related to drug possession and driving with a suspended or revoked license due to a prior DUI incident. Deputy District Attorney Brian Orue provided the details of Pandolfi’s guilty plea and the charges against her. The victim’s husband, James Alvarez, spoke to reporters after the hearing, expressing the emotional toll of the ordeal and his relief that Pandolfi took responsibility for her actions.
