Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A woman was fatally shot and killed in what police suspect to be a domestic incident in South Philadelphia. The 31-year-old victim, who had been assaulted by a man a week prior to the shooting, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2300 block of South Marshall Street just before 7 p.m.
According to authorities, the woman was walking with a man when they were approached by three suspects. One of the suspects grabbed her, another held the man at gunpoint, while the third remained on his bike as a lookout. The suspect holding the woman then fired multiple shots at her before all three suspects fled the scene.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Two suspects, 32-year-old Carey Jones and 35-year-old Sherman Carney, were later arrested after being seen on Ritner Street. Following a brief foot pursuit, both suspects were taken into custody, and police recovered a gun from each of them.
Both Jones and Carney have been charged with murder and related offenses. Police indicated that the shooting may have been a result of a domestic situation, as the victim had been assaulted the prior week, requiring hospitalization and leaving her with facial bruises. A warrant has been issued for another individual believed to be involved in the deadly shooting.
