There were no overnight flare-ups reported, nor was there any necessity to apply water to the affected area, alleviating some concerns about potential hazards.
Air quality readings from monitoring devices remain unchanged, with no health threats identified in the surrounding environment. In a proactive measure, the Environmental Protection Agency is in the process of establishing a stationary network of air monitors to ensure continuous assessment of air quality in the region.
Fortunately, there have been no injuries linked to the incident, allowing first responders to focus on containment and cleanup efforts. So far, crews have recovered a total of 1,824,312 gallons of hazardous material from the scene. This figure includes 1,791,174 gallons extracted directly from the site and an additional 33,138 gallons collected from the surrounding water.
Efforts along the Tangipahoa River have proven effective, with about 25,242 gallons of material removed using specialized skimmer equipment. Additional operations utilizing MARCO boats have led to the retrieval of 7,896 gallons, showcasing the intensive work being done to mitigate environmental impact.
