BEL AIR, Maryland – Police in Maryland have released a new sketch of a man suspected of killing Rachel Morin, a mother of five who was found slain on a hiking trail about six months ago.
The Hartford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public to help identify the suspect believed to have been in the area for weeks leading up to the killing in August on the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air. They are asking for details on where the suspect stayed, who he spoke to, and where he worked, in an effort to gather more information.
The agency has released two images of the sketches of the suspect, one showing him wearing a red cap and the other one displaying his close-cropped hair.
Rachel Morin, 37, was reported missing by her boyfriend after failing to return home from running along the Ma and Pa Trail. Her body was discovered the following day after a volunteer joined in the search.
Authorities have conducted an extensive investigation, conducting interviews and following up on more than 1,000 tips. They have also distributed flyers and sought assistance from federal, state, and local agencies. The investigation has crossed state lines, with leads taking them to seven different states.
The suspects sketches released by the sheriff’s office are believed to be the closest rendition of the suspect, as worn by witnesses who saw someone resembling the man on the trail in the weeks leading up to Rachel’s death. It is confirmed that DNA from the murder scene matched a man tied to a sex assault during a home invasion in Los Angeles.
Captain Andy Lane, who is leading the probe, stated that the investigation has not slowed down and that the suspect was present in the county for weeks prior to the incident. The suspect has been described as a 5-foot, 9-inch man in his mid-20s to 30s, weighing about 160 pounds with dark hair.
The family of Rachel Morin is pleading for the public’s help in tracking down the suspect to bring closure and prevent the perpetrator from causing further harm in their community.
