Police Launch Manhunt for Ninth Suspect as Eight Sentenced for Brutal Walsall Street Assault

WALSALL, England — Police are on the lookout for a ninth suspect connected to a violent street attack in Walsall that resulted in substantial prison sentences for eight men. The group was found guilty of ambushing five individuals while using a vehicle and later assaulting them with a range of weapons, including machetes, knives, and bats. The brutal incident unfolded on July 31, 2022, on Reedswood Lane just before midnight.

The court delivered substantial sentences on Friday, with the group collectively facing almost 120 years behind bars. Amar Shahzad, 37, and Hezar Iyaiz, 20, each received sentences of 17 years. Other defendants included Mohammed Sajid, 38, and Kamran Moore, 22, both of whom were sentenced to 16 years. Shazad Mahmood, 34, and Khurum Sajad, 23, also faced similar repercussions, while Waheed Ayub, 28, received 17 years. Another man, Umar Saddique, 29, was sentenced to two years for assisting an offender.

Despite these arrests, authorities have identified Amar Khan, 40, as a fugitive still at large. Known as Adam Barzini, Khan evaded capture during the investigation and is now wanted for his involvement in the violent episode. Detective Inspector Francis Nock, who spearheaded the investigation, urged the public to assist in locating Khan, advising anyone who sees him to call emergency services rather than approach him directly.

The attack not only devastated the victims but also prompted an extensive investigation by West Midlands Police. The men who were assaulted managed to drive themselves to Walsall Manor Hospital, where they were treated for severe injuries, including gunshot wounds and deep lacerations. Many of the victims required multiple surgeries, with one placed in a medically induced coma due to the life-threatening nature of their injuries.

Nock characterized the incident as an alarming display of violence involving weapons and firearms. He emphasized the seriousness of the attack, stating it resulted in “life-altering injuries” for the victims. The detective declared that the harsh sentences serve as a strong warning against armed violence in the community.

Community concerns over safety have grown as a result of such incidents. Local residents are left grappling with the implications of armed attacks and the need for measures to enhance public safety. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating crime, particularly violent offenses that threaten community well-being.

This case underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in curbing gang-related activities in urban areas. As investigators continue their search for Khan, the repercussions of this brutal attack highlight the urgent need for collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the community to thwart similar acts in the future.
