Georgetown, Guyana — Authorities have expanded their search for the suspect involved in a devastating explosion at a gas station that left a six-year-old girl dead and her family injured. Investigators with the Guyana Police Force announced they have discovered clothing believed to be worn by the suspect when he allegedly planted explosives at the Regent Street Mobil gas station on Sunday night.
In a recent statement, police confirmed that the clothes were located in Region Three, following an updated release of the suspect’s photograph earlier in the morning. While the police have not disclosed the suspect’s identity, the image shows him wearing a hat similar to one found along with a blue T-shirt and black pants.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect placing a black bag near cooking gas cylinders just moments before the explosion occurred. The man, described as a Spanish-speaking foreign national, attempted to position the bag next to fuel tanks earlier but was blocked by a staff member at the gas station.
The police’s investigation has progressed significantly, leading to the detention of three individuals, including a Venezuelan national. Law enforcement officials stated that intelligence and CCTV analysis facilitated a coordinated operation resulting in the interception of a silver car, which was used to transport one of the suspects.
Information gleaned from the custody of these three individuals has helped advance the case, as the main suspect remains at large. A Wanted Bulletin has been issued, urging the public to provide any details regarding the suspect’s whereabouts by contacting local authorities or calling 911.
The impact of the explosion has resulted in an extensive assessment of the crime scene, where damages have been noted at the Mobil mini-mart, fuel pumps, and several nearby buildings, including a KFC outlet and portions of the High Court. Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory are currently analyzing samples of debris, including plastic and metal fragments, to determine their significance.
While the investigation remains in active progress, community members are expressing their desperation for justice following the tragedy. Witnesses recall a traumatic scene where the family’s vehicle was thrown into the air by the force of the blast, resulting in serious injuries to its occupants. The girl’s family is calling for accountability as the survivors continue to receive medical treatment.
The Guyana Police Force has pledged to exhaust all resources to ensure justice is served and safety is maintained for all citizens. Further updates are expected as the search for the suspect intensifies and investigations continue.
