JOLIET, Ill. – A 52-year-old man from Plainfield, Illinois, is facing multiple charges in connection with a violent attack on his girlfriend, the Joliet police reported.
Jonah Madia has been charged with domestic battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of ammunition, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, endangering the life or health of a child, manufacture and delivery of cannabis, possession of cannabis, and possession of explosives.
The charges stem from an alleged incident on Friday night at a home in the 6300 block of Clifton Court in Plainfield. According to authorities, Madia beat his girlfriend and threatened to shoot her during the altercation.
Police officers responded to the home around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a loud disturbance. Upon arrival, they were let into the residence by a 6-year-old child and immediately heard a disturbance on the second floor. Madia was found in a bedroom and detained, while his girlfriend was located in another bedroom, police said.
Investigators believe Madia grew angry and physically assaulted his girlfriend, threatening her with a gun and firing it multiple times, although the woman was not struck by gunfire. Upon taking Madia into custody, officers discovered suspected cannabis and narcotics in the home.
A subsequent search of the residence led to the recovery of over 800 grams of suspected cannabis, suspected LSD, commercial-grade fireworks, and ammunition. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the child, the suspect, and the victim.
Madia is currently facing legal proceedings, and the case is ongoing.
