PHOENIX — Police have apprehended a man in connection with a violent sexual assault that shocked the community last month. Authorities identified Luis Tapia, 24, as the suspect in the August incident, which left the victim critically injured.
Tapia faces serious charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault, and four counts of aggravated assault. The attack occurred in the early hours of August 14, when officers responded to disturbances reported from an alley near 46th and Oak streets, located between McDowell and Thomas roads.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a woman in her mid-30s, unconscious and partially unclothed, with significant injuries. Medical personnel rushed her to a hospital where she received emergency care. While she has since been released, authorities have noted that she is still recovering from her traumatic experience.
In a press conference on September 5, Lieutenant Casey Tornberg of the Phoenix Police Adult Sex Crimes Unit described the injuries sustained by the victim as particularly severe, emphasizing the brutality of the assault.
