Video showed at least two people moving along the sloped glass crown of the 609 Main office tower.
HOUSTON — At least two people were recorded moving across the steep roof of a downtown Houston skyscraper Friday afternoon, including one person who appeared to slide down an angled glass section without visible safety equipment.
The people were seen atop 609 Main, a prominent office tower near Main Street, Capitol Street and Texas Avenue. Video recorded from a nearby building showed one person descending part of the sloped crown while another stood near the top and appeared to take a photograph.
The identities of the people and the reason they were on the roof remained unknown Sunday. It was also unclear how they reached the upper portion of the building or how long they stayed there.
Houston police told KHOU 11 that the department had no reports connected to the incident. Building security also said it had not received information about what happened, according to the station.
Because no police report was filed, authorities had not announced an investigation, identified anyone involved or said whether any laws may have been broken. No official account has established whether the people entered through the building, gained access from another structure or had permission to be on the roof.
The commercial office tower rises about 755 feet above downtown and has 48 occupied floors. Its distinctive crown slopes upward, creating the sharply angled surface visible in the recording.
The height and shape of the roof made the activity appear especially dangerous. The recording did not show the people wearing harnesses, ropes or other visible fall-protection equipment. It also did not show anyone falling or requiring emergency assistance.
The footage circulated online after people working in a nearby office building noticed the activity. The video provided a distant view, however, and did not reveal the people’s faces clearly enough to establish their identities.
No injuries had been publicly linked to the incident as of Sunday. Police and building representatives had not announced any arrests, security changes or further action.
