WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, OH – Authorities in Henry County have arrested a man after discovering nearly 100 dogs living in squalid conditions on his property. Marty Ice, the homeowner, is facing multiple animal cruelty charges following the rescue operation.
The investigation was prompted by a tip from a Toledo veterinarian who had examined some of the dogs. Despite the veterinarian’s offer to help, Ice allegedly refused and took the dogs back home, leading to the vet’s call to the Humane Society.
Upon their visit, officials found the dogs, mainly Dobermans, in dire conditions. Many were housed in cages, malnourished, and six puppies were found dead. Some dogs were in slightly better health, wandering freely around the property.
Complaints from neighbors about the conditions at Ice’s home had been reported over the years, but formal legal actions were often stalled due to fears of retaliation. This time, however, with the veterinarian’s intervention, authorities could take decisive action.
Ice, listed as a breeder with the American Kennel Club, is now under scrutiny by the organization, which has restricted his access to their services and is cooperating with the police investigation.
The rescued dogs are being cared for by shelters across Northwest Ohio. The Henry County Humane Society is spearheading the effort, seeking donations to cover the medical and care expenses for the animals.
Ice is set to appear in court this week, where it will be determined if he can regain custody of the animals by posting a $100,000 bond.
The community is encouraged to support the shelters involved in the rescue effort by making donations online, ensuring the dogs receive the necessary care and rehabilitation.
