Kyiv, Ukraine — In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russian forces unleashed a barrage of around 430 drones and 18 missiles against Ukraine during the night, targeting civilian areas and infrastructure.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, describing it as a deliberate strike intended to maximize harm. “This was a calculated assault on our people and vital infrastructure,” he stated. Initial reports indicated that the brutal assault resulted in dozens of injuries, including children and a pregnant woman, with four fatalities confirmed.
The capital city bore the brunt of the assault, with multiple apartment buildings suffering extensive damage. Notably, debris from an Iskander missile impacted the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv. The president confirmed that additional regions, including Kharkiv and Odesa, were also targeted, with indications that a Zircon missile was used in the Sumy region earlier in the day.
In light of the attacks, Zelensky urged nations worldwide to strengthen their responses, emphasizing the need for sanctions against Russia, which he believes continues to exploit avenues to generate revenue from oil sales. “We need to halt these operations decisively. Ongoing discussions with our partners are focused on bolstering air defense capabilities. We require more systems and interceptor missiles to effectively counter these threats,” he asserted.
The president highlighted updates from key officials, including Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, who provided information on ongoing rescue operations, and Air Force Commander Anatoliy Kryvonozhko, who reported on the outcomes of the air defense response.
Zelensky underscored the urgency of collective action against the rising threat to civilian security. “The world must unite to protect the innocent and ensure that such vile attacks are met with swift and decisive measures,” he said.
As Ukraine continues to grapple with this intensified aggression, the focus remains on strengthening defenses and securing international support to mitigate the ongoing risks. The events of the night of November 14 serve as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the nation amidst ongoing conflict.
