SEAGOVILLE, TX – A tragic shooting in a Seagoville neighborhood Sunday morning left one young man dead and another man facing murder charges. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, was captured on a neighbor’s surveillance camera, leading to the arrest of 51-year-old Larry Robertson.
The altercation broke out in a residential area bustling with families and children, leaving the community in shock. According to a witness, a bullet pierced through a window of a nearby home, narrowly missing a child who was watching television. “It’s terrifying to think this happened in what we thought was a safe area,” said Tanisha Ortega, whose daughter was in the home.
The surveillance footage reportedly shows Robertson driving a black Kia near the 19-year-old victim, who was wearing a red sweatshirt. An exchange of words quickly escalated to gunfire, and the young man was seen fleeing before collapsing. Ortega, who rushed to aid the victim, recalled urging him to stay awake as she attempted to keep him conscious until help arrived.
Following the shooting, Seagoville police tracked down the Kia and arrested Robertson. He has been cooperating with investigators, according to an arrest affidavit. Robertson claimed the young man had approached his house with a pistol and pointed it at him, prompting his response. His family reported seeing two males loitering near their home before the incident.
The affidavit indicates that both Robertson and the victim exchanged gunfire, but it’s unclear who fired first. While both appeared to brandish weapons, no firearm was found on the deceased teenager, raising questions about the events leading up to the shooting.
Ortega, who witnessed the young man’s final moments, described the experience as haunting. “It’s shocking and makes you question the safety of your own home,” she said. The victim’s family, who also reside in the neighborhood, has chosen not to speak publicly at this time.
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of the violence. Authorities emphasize that gun violence is never the solution and are urging residents to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
