Mumbai, India — In a harrowing incident that unfolded in Malad, Mumbai, the Malvani police have apprehended 28-year-old Prakash Manjhi from Bihar, who is accused of assaulting a 38-year-old woman after attempting to sexually assault her. Manjhi, who was employed as a caretaker and watchman at a local bungalow that doubles as a film production house, now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.
The events transpired on Monday when Manjhi allegedly lured the woman – a senior executive at a nearby business – into the bungalow under the pretense that her cats had wandered onto the property. According to police reports, after attempting to isolate her by suggesting she secure the dogs on the property away from her cats, Manjhi made unwanted sexual advances towards her.
When the woman resisted, the confrontation reportedly became violent, culminating in Manjhi wielding a knife, resulting in severe injuries to her neck and stomach. Desperately fighting back, the woman managed to disarm him, pushing him out of the room and barricading herself inside until help could arrive.
She was soon assisted by a friend who transported her to Kokilaben Hospital, where she received urgent medical care while police were notified about the incident. Authorities swiftly recorded her statement and initiated a manhunt for Manjhi, who was eventually located and arrested in his home state of Bihar.
Manjhi has been booked under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), specifically addressing crimes such as attempted rape, molestation, sexual harassment, and attempted murder.
