Bedford Fire Marshal Leo George reported that the gas accumulated at the basement level and reached the first floor of the church. “The explosion was triggered when an appliance ignited the gas-filled air,” George explained. The exact appliance responsible for the ignition has yet to be identified, as investigations are ongoing.
