MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee community is in mourning after a 64-year-old man was shot and killed in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery. Surveillance footage from a local liquor store shows Carl Turman walking past the store at the intersection of Concordia and MLK Drive on Friday, moments before the tragic event unfolded.
The video captured Turman being approached by a man armed with a gun. The assailant followed Turman, pointed the weapon at him, and fired a shot. Turman fell to the ground, and although the shooter stumbled, he regained his balance, fired a second shot, and then fled the scene. Turman was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Tajan Anderson, Turman’s granddaughter, expressed her disbelief and grief over the loss of her grandfather, who she described as a generous and loving man. “He had no business being taken from us,” she lamented, reflecting on the senselessness of his death. Anderson shared that her grandfather was a man who brought joy to those around him, often leaving cheerful voicemails for his family.
The Milwaukee Police Department is actively investigating the homicide, seeking to bring justice to Turman’s family. Preliminary information suggests there may have been a confrontation between the suspect and Turman prior to the shooting, according to a store employee.
Turman’s family remains hopeful for a resolution to the case. Anderson expressed a desire for justice, saying, “I’m really, really hoping he gets justice.” The family noted that Turman lived less than a block away from where the shooting occurred, adding to their heartache.
The community is rallying around the family, offering support and condolences. Neighbors and friends remember Turman as a vibrant presence, someone who loved to dance, laugh, and spend time with his family.
As the investigation continues, the family and community are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward and assist law enforcement in their efforts to solve this Valentine’s Day tragedy.
