Milwaukee, Wisconsin — A family is grappling with profound grief following the fatal shooting of Angel Olivares in his driveway just before Thanksgiving last Wednesday. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in a quiet neighborhood near Winona Lane and Burnham Street, leaving behind a heartbroken family and a community searching for answers.
Jose Olivares, Angel’s son, recounted receiving the devastating news shortly after 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving day. “I couldn’t believe it. I was completely distraught,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion. “Why him? He was a good person, never a troublemaker.”
Neighbors reportedly called 911 after hearing multiple gunshots, but by the time authorities arrived, it was too late. Angel was found unresponsive in his driveway, while the shooter remains at large. “They just heard the shots and rushed downstairs to find my dad lying there,” Jose added.
The family had intended to gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, with Angel planning to help prepare the meal. “I bought a turkey and all the fixings, and he was supposed to come over,” Jose recalled, struggling to come to terms with the family’s altered plans.
Residents near where the shooting occurred described Angel as a peaceful man who had lived in the home for about two years without any known conflicts with his neighbors. He dedicated much of his time to running a cleaning business while also being a devoted father to his three children.
Thirteen-year-old Andrea Olivares cherished her dance moments with her father and had been eagerly anticipating her quinceañera, for which he was saving money. “He would work extra shifts just to make it special,” she said. “Now, it feels like everything he did was for nothing.”
While the investigation continues, the family is urging the shooter to come forward and is asking anyone with information to contact the Milwaukee Police Department. “We just want justice for him,” Jose implored.
In addition to seeking answers, the family is facing the financial burden of Angel’s funeral expenses. They have started a fundraising campaign to help cover these costs, hoping to honor his memory as best as they can during this difficult time.
