Michelin-Star Chef Jacob Bickelhaupt Faces New Charges After Allegedly Tampering with Domestic Violence Victim from Jail

West Palm Beach, Fla. — A prominent chef in South Florida has been hit with new legal troubles following allegations that he attempted to reach his victim from jail. Jacob Bickelhaupt, 41, a co-founder of the Michelin-starred restaurant Konro, is now facing additional charges of witness tampering and violating a domestic violence injunction.

Bickelhaupt was initially arrested after a violent incident on June 2 that left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries, including bleeding in her brain, requiring emergency surgery. Police reports indicate that Bickelhaupt reportedly assaulted the woman for an extended period, ultimately leading her to a local airport where she suffered a seizure while attempting to book a flight to Denver. Her sister expressed concerns that the woman’s life could have been at greater risk had she boarded the flight.

Currently held in Palm Beach County Jail on a $90,000 bond, Bickelhaupt is under strict directives including a no-contact order with the alleged victim and GPS monitoring. Court documents reveal that he was also assigned a public defender due to financial constraints.

In a troubling development, police were alerted by a woman who shares a business phone with the victim. She provided authorities with voicemails Bickelhaupt left while incarcerated, which included pleas for help in securing bond money. The messages, sent two days after the attack, reveal his desperation, as he urged the victim to contact his public defender and implied a need for financial assistance.

In one voicemail, Bickelhaupt expressed his affection for the victim and laid out plans to reduce his bail, indicating he required immediate contact to discuss arrangements. Another message detailed his precarious situation, stressing that he lacked basic necessities and urgently needed help. These calls, however, did not originate from the jail but from another phone linked to an outside acquaintance previously arrested on unrelated charges.

As authorities continue to investigate, the victim’s current condition remains undisclosed due to hospital policies on confidentiality for domestic violence cases. Attempts to reach her family for comment have yet to receive a response.

Bickelhaupt’s history raises further concerns; he previously faced domestic violence charges stemming from an incident in 2017 involving his ex-wife, which resulted in the closure of his acclaimed Chicago restaurant, 42 Grams. Following that incident, he attempted to rehabilitate his image through a documentary detailing his struggles with public perception and personal redemption.

Having relocated to West Palm Beach in 2022, Bickelhaupt opened Konro, which gained prominence after earning a Michelin star earlier this year. The unfolding legal issues have cast a shadow over his culinary achievements, as he now faces a potential lengthy legal battle.

As this situation develops, more updates are expected in the coming days.
