LARGO, FL – A Miami Hurricanes linebacker has been charged in connection with a devastating crash that took the lives of three individuals in May. The collision occurred at Orange View Drive and Ridge Road, leading to a detailed investigation by local police.
The college sophomore involved in the accident surrendered to the Largo Police Department earlier today and was subsequently held at the Pinellas County Jail. He was released on bond but did not comment on the vehicular homicide charges.
According to the investigation, the athlete was driving a Dodge Durango at nearly twice the speed limit. The vehicle was clocked at approximately 79 mph, maneuvering recklessly through traffic, which led to the fatal crash.
Officials reported that the driver of a Kia, legally turning left, was struck by the Durango. The crash resulted in the deaths of 10-year-old Jabari Solomon, 4-year-old Charley Sullivan Riviera, and 78-year-old Gail Price. The father of the children survived the collision.
The local police chief underscored the seriousness of the charges, noting the driver’s reckless behavior as a direct cause of the tragedy. Investigators have reviewed footage from a nearby truck and interviewed witnesses to establish the events of May 10.
The inquiry concluded that the driver’s actions displayed a willful disregard for safety, with aggressive driving being a critical factor in the incident. The police chief stressed that such conduct has dire consequences and cannot be tolerated.
Throughout the probe, authorities have engaged with the victims’ families, who have expressed gratitude for the progress in the case. They hope that the charges will provide some form of justice for their loss.
As the case progresses, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the need for responsible behavior on the roads.
