Maryland man held without bond in death of 4-month-old

Charging papers detail trauma to the infant and a rapid arrest after the 911 call.

WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man, identified as Jordan Nathaniel Savoy, 28, is jailed without bond after sheriff’s detectives charged him with murder and child abuse in the death of his 4-month-old daughter following a Sunday evening 911 call on Barksdale Avenue.

Investigators say the baby was unresponsive when first responders arrived around 6:45 p.m. Nov. 23. Medics tried lifesaving measures and took her to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. In court filings, detectives wrote that the infant had multiple fractures and other injuries consistent with abuse. The sheriff’s office said the investigation moved quickly and centered on Savoy, who was arrested and booked into the Charles County Detention Center.

According to the charging documents, officers documented bruising on the infant and noted statements that raised concern about how the injuries occurred. One filing quotes Savoy as telling the child’s mother, “don’t let them take me to prison,” after the baby was found not breathing. Authorities said no other children at the home were reported hurt. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office named Detective Burgess as the lead investigator and said the medical examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Prosecutors charged Savoy with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, first-degree child abuse causing severe physical injury, aggravated assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Officials did not release the infant’s name. The sheriff’s office said no other suspects are being sought at this time. The residence sits in a residential stretch of Waldorf where neighbors reported seeing police and medics on the block for hours as evidence technicians worked inside.

Waldorf is a commuter suburb about 25 miles south of Washington. The sheriff’s office announced the arrest in a news release and on social media, part of its regular practice for major cases. Public records show the detention center that houses felony defendants is in La Plata. Authorities have not disclosed any prior calls for service at the specific address, and investigators did not immediately describe a potential motive in public statements.

Court officials said a preliminary hearing date will be set after prosecutors review the medical examiner’s findings and determine a charging path, which could include a grand jury presentation. The sheriff’s office said additional updates are expected once autopsy results are returned. Savoy remains held without bond while the investigation continues.

On Friday, the case remained open with no further public updates on autopsy timing or court scheduling. Detectives asked anyone with information about the hours before the 6:45 p.m. call to contact the sheriff’s office.
