LUMBERTON, N.C. – In the early hours of Friday morning, tragedy struck an apartment in Lumberton as a 27-year-old man was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred at the Godwin Avenue Apartments on East 21st Street.
Police officers in Lumberton responded to a call reporting a shooting at around 12:25 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Charles Bethea, 27, inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. Bethea was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but tragically passed away before 7:30 a.m.
Following the incident, Bobby Desean Jones, 31, was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder in connection to Bethea’s death. Jones is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues.
