London, England – A man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for a vicious attack in Wembley where he repeatedly stabbed a woman, leaving her for dead. Itesh Ira, 35, of Belmont Avenue, Wembley, received his sentence after pleading guilty to attempted murder and possession of a knife. The violent incident took place in the middle of a street, resulting in the victim sustaining stab wounds to her face, neck, and body.
Emergency services responded to the scene on September 30, 2022, where they found the victim barely conscious on the pavement. CCTV footage revealed the brutal nature of the attack, with Ira seen stomping on the victim’s head as she lay on the ground. Fortunately, a brave bystander intervened, preventing the injuries from escalating.
Following the attack, Ira turned himself in at Wembley Police Station and was promptly arrested. The victim, who was acquainted with Ira, was hospitalized for several weeks to undergo treatment for her extensive injuries. Medical reports detailed eight lacerations, including facial, neck, and bodily wounds, as well as fractures to her right hand.
Detective Sergeant Mitesh Mulji expressed the severe nature of the crime, emphasizing that Ira’s intention was to kill the victim through his senseless and violent actions. He reiterated the Metropolitan Police’s commitment to combating violence against women and girls, reaffirming their dedication to holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable.
Mulji also commended the victim’s bravery in supporting the prosecution, acknowledging the lasting physical and psychological impact of the incident on her. He highlighted the courageous actions of the bystander, who intervened to halt the violent attack and ultimately saved the victim’s life. This individual was recognized with a Judge’s Commendation for their bravery in the face of danger.
