Man Savagely Attacked with Machete and Hammer in Melbourne’s West, Shocking CCTV Footage Emerges

Melbourne, Australia – A brutal attack in Melbourne’s west left a 21-year-old man, Chol Yai, severely injured after being slashed and beaten in broad daylight on Sunday. The attack involved multiple weapons including a machete and a hammer and was captured on CCTV footage from a nearby home.

Yai was set upon by a group of about four men around 5pm on Sunday, chased across Elpis Rd, Weir Views, and then attacked in a garden outside a McDonald’s outlet. Witnesses described the horrifying attack, with one person heard saying, “They’ve stabbed him in the back,” and another urging someone to call the police.

The residents who witnessed the incident rushed to provide first aid to the injured man, who suffered severe injuries to his head, back, and arm. Yai was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his arm and remains in serious condition. His mother, Teresa Garang, expressed disbelief, stating that her son was simply out shopping for food and has no idea why he was targeted.

Police are investigating the incident, but the victim has chosen not to cooperate. The offenders were seen fleeing in a black sedan, and at this stage, no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

The gruesome attack has shocked the local community, with authorities continuing their efforts to locate the perpetrators and bring them to justice. In the meantime, Yai’s family is left grappling with the trauma and uncertainty of the situation, seeking answers and justice for their loved one.
