JACKSON, Miss. – In a dramatic turn of events, a man has confessed to second-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and aggravated assault. The plea was entered on Monday, March 25, marking a significant development in a case that has gripped the community.
According to official reports, the incident dates back to July 20, 2020, when Jackson Police officers were called to a residence on Rosslyn Avenue. Tragically, they discovered the lifeless body of 29-year-old Jabari Peterson inside. The investigation revealed that Shaquille Thompson had shot Peterson multiple times following a heated argument before fleeing the scene.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, confirmed that Thompson has been handed a stiff sentence of 40 years, with 10 years suspended, for the first count, and 10 years, with 5 years post-release supervision, for the second count. The gravity of the charges reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed.
In a further shocking twist, Thompson was implicated in another violent incident on September 28, 2022. Alongside another inmate, he viciously assaulted Rekedrick Adams, leaving him with multiple stab wounds, including a severe head injury caused by broken glass. Despite the brutal attack, Adams was able to identify his assailants, leading to swift justice being served.
As a consequence of these actions, Thompson has now been sentenced to an additional 20 years, with 10 years suspended, and a further 5 years post-release supervision. District Attorney Owens clarified that all sentences will run concurrently, amounting to a total of 30 years in prison with additional post-release monitoring.
