Man in his 30s Arrested and Charged in Relation to Violent Assault of Woman in County Longford Last Year

LONGFORD, IRELAND – A man in his 30s has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent assault on a woman in County Longford last year. The attack occurred at the Mall in Longford town around 2:30am on August 7th. The woman, who is in her 50s, suffered serious facial injuries and received treatment at Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital. Gardaí believe the woman was punched in the face multiple times after being confronted in the early hours of the morning in The Albert Reynolds Peace Park.

The man was arrested as part of the investigation and appeared before Athlone District Court on January 3, 2024. The victim managed to escape by running towards the main gate of The Mall and raising the alarm.
